Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea, known as the "Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" for its Irish heritage, lush green hills, and the devastating 1995 eruption of the Soufrière Hills volcano which buried the former capital Plymouth under ash and pyroclastic flows.
