There are 195 sovereign countries: 193 United Nations member states plus 2 observer states (the Holy See and Palestine). This map also includes dependencies and territories, 249 places in all. What counts as visiting a country?
There is no official rule. Most travelers count a country once they have set foot in it; others only count it if they left the airport or stayed overnight. Pick whatever feels right to you and mark those countries, the tool simply counts what you choose.
